About Me

Sarah Swingley

My small hometown of Muncie, Indiana may not seem a cradle of creativity at first glance. However, if one is a product of their environment, I was lucky to have grown up in a place with so many challenges. Watching a dying factory town choke around me spurred stories on in my head of the future, and led me devotedly to genre film and television from an early age.

The commitment to my career started early, and I quickly became equipped with a practical sense of production from independent filmmaking and live network television. However, I remained more in love with writing than any other aspect of the industry, and felt myself intrinsically pulled toward further education in the craft. In 2016, I relocated to L.A. to become a Screenwriting fellow at the American Film Institute Conservatory, later obtaining my M.F.A. of Screenwriting in 2018.

Above all else as a science fiction writer, I strive to focus the limitless potential of the medium through the lens of a modern female gaze, exploring themes embroiled with trauma, sacrifice, and most of all— love.
